The Premier League season starts in just two weeks away and supporters worldwide have already started to make predictions on how their favourite teams will do, so I’ve decided to share my own offside opinions and predict this year’s results.
Champions: Arsenal
Don’t get me wrong, I’m far from being an Arsenal fan. I’ve been hatewatching them for as long as I can remember, but I just don’t see anybody else winning the trophy. They’ve kept Arteta, which is already a big advantage over the other Big Six teams, four of which have changed managers.
Also, their brand new midfield addition, Bruno Guimarães, will surely strengthen their already balanced midfield. Not to mention that they’re linked with Vinicius Jr., a player that could bring more speed to their attack.
The only thing that I see stopping them is their horrible style of play. They have been saved by corners and referees’ decisions time and time again, but their defence has proved to be excellent almost always, and defence wins championships. Another obstacle might be Saliba’s absence for a pretty long time.
Top 4: Arsenal
Manchester United
Manchester City
Liverpool
I can really imagine Manchester United taking the second place this year. Last season, they showed that they are a motivated group and I believe that their recent signings will help them get more consistent. And, who knows, if they manage to do that, they might go on a decent title charge, although I see them falling off in January, with the schedule getting busier.
As for Manchester City, I don’t think they can keep up the good work without Pep Guardiola. For sure, they will finish pretty high up, because they still have quality players like Haaland and Ruben Dias, but if they also lose Rodri, it will keep getting harder. I’m truly curious to see how Enzo Maresca will do in charge, although I think that the weaknesses they showed last season will only get deeper.
I believe Liverpool will do better than last season, mainly because they’ll have a fully fit Alexander Isak and a better-adapted Wirtz by their side. I like Iraola’s style of play and I think most of LFC’s players will fit it well. However, their top 4 finish will be due to the fact that most other teams are weaker.
Biggest disappointment: Chelsea
Yes, Xabi Alonso showed good promise at Leverkusen. Yes, he couldn’t handle the pressure at Real Madrid. And yes, his big summer signings are Welbeck and Henderson.
For me, that’s the recipe for failure. Just imagine that Welbeck- Joao Pedro attack. Both served by Palmer. What more do I need to say?
Biggest Surprise: Fulham
New, young, promising coach; new, young, promising striker; and a united, motivated group. I’ve been following Fulham for a while now and this season might just be a memorable one for them.
Top Scorer: Erling Haaland
No matter how City does this season, Haaland won’t be a problem. He has shown this summer, more than ever, that he is one of the most consistent players on the planet and that he is ready to do anything in order to win. The most reliable striker at the moment, and he will prove it once again. Another 30+ goal season incoming….
These are my Premier League predictions for this season. I can’t wait to see how many of them will be totally offside and how many will be spot on;)
